LAST WEEKEND AT THE MARKETS

Dragonfruit is in season! Not only is it beautiful to look at but the flavor is out of this world… get it while you can- the season is short. We were glad to see Josh Heimowitz out at the Hale’iwa Farmers Market bringing awareness to Friends of Ka’ena this past weekend. Longbeans, carrots, papaya and melons were just some of the bounty found in the market this week! Shoppers of all ages found something that caught their eyes: from Sea Babe Jewelry to Wee Wonders.

Lilikoi and okra from the organic fields of Kolea Farm,
and eggs from the happy chickens at Tin Roof Ranch!

So much to choose from at the markets! Eggplant, Torch Ginger, Honey Girl Organic Skin Care, cantaloupe, Universe Juice smoothies, broccoli, orchids, tomatoes… and this young man was hanging out with our friends from ‘Aina in Schools and learning about planting seeds!

Whether you are shopping for Mohala Farms organic lilikoi, strolling down the aisle on dad’s shoulders, falling in love with Otsuji Farm’s beets, enjoying the artistry of Plumeria Sun, delighting in fresh cut flowers, sipping some treats from Roots of Hawaii, thumping watermelon, making arts & crafts in Keiki Korner, or planning a great recipe with Mohala collards, you will always have a great time at the Hawaii Kai and Haleiwa Farmers’ Markets. Coast to Coast… we are there for food, fun and community!

JOIN THE ONO REVOLUTION!
If 2 out of 10 portions of vegetable, fruit, or meat we eat come from a farm in the state of Hawaii, we will be strengthening our local economy, supporting fellow community members, and insuring greater food security and safety. We will be:
-
Generating more than $300 million dollars in our local economy which will in turn stimulate the job market.
-
Keeping agricultural land in food production and thus preserving rural communities.
-
Building food security for the years ahead.
-
Investing in a localized economy that is not as vulnerable to external pressures.
-
Supporting the development of just and sustainable regional farm and food networks.
In addition, we will:
-
Stay connected, informed and active for legislative changes that affect our local food growing capabilities.
-
Use creativity, energy, and resources to lend more support to our community food producers.
-
Encourage new food growing and producing enterprises.
Visit their website to join the revolution! And spread the word!
